In Memory of Casey

*

On October 27, 2003 I walked into Walmart and saw Casey. Needless to say, it wasn't hard to convince my dad into letting me get him. From that moment on, Casey and I were inseparable... mostly to the fact that wherever I went, Casey was right there by my leg. We always wondered why Casey was given up, and by his mannerisms, we figured he may have been a seeing eye dog.

*

Casey was a big teddy bear. There wasn't anyone as gentle and lovable as he was. He was really thoughtful and made sure that everyone always had a chance to pet him. Casey loved to be scratched and would flip his head under your hand until you would pet him. We always joked that if I burglar ever broke in, Casey would occupy him by making the burglar pet him. When we took him on walks, he made sure that he went up to every person that he saw so they could pet him. He was great in making us get to know our neighbors.

*

Some of my favorite times with Casey were spent snuggling on the couch. Even though at one point he weighed 135 pounds, that didn't stop him from thinking he was a lap dog. He wanted to be right there, laying next to you. Speaking of the couch, that was one of Casey's favorite places to lay. It was evident that Casey started not to feel well, when he stopped jumping up on the couch.

*

Throughout the time that Casey was with us, he suffered many health problems. Casey frequented the vet so often that they made him Dog of the Month. He got his picture put on the shelf there. The staff at Hunter Animal Hospital knew him by name and loved him. They were always so good to him and our family. We also joked that there was a reason that he was a "golden" retriever . . . because it cost the family so much to take care of him. However, I would pay the thousands over and over again to have him still....

*

We should have known that Casey would have health problems. Within the first two days having him he was at the pet ER. He had complications following the mandatory neutering for adoption. The poor pup was swollen up to the size of a softball. Casey also had problems with his thyroid. Poor guy gained so much weight before we caught it. Another health problem was tumors. Casey underwent two major surgeries to remove tumors. The last one was unsuccessful because the tumor was wrapped around a major artery. In the end, the tumor grew so large that it affected his appetite causing him to lose large amounts of weight. It also caused pressure on his major organs and caused decreased blood volume.

*

In the end I knew I was being selfish for keeping him here. My time with him was up. God had lent me his best pup for long enough and he wanted him home. I know Casey is in a better place, running and smiling like the old days, his tail wagging. His bud Sadie welcomed him home and is showing him the best rivers to walk through and the best grass to eat. I am sure there is a nice couch in the sunshine for him to take his naps on in heaven.

I know I will see him again, but until then I will miss my golden shadow,
my comfort when no one else is there, and one of my best friends.

"Dogs' lifes are too short. Their only fault really." This can be said of my Casey.

Look Out!

Look out! Here I come! I have started to pull myself up on things. First, I pulled myself up on my car.... now I have conquered the crib!

Mom was on the computer. She was listening to me making grunting sounds on the baby monitor. Well, she thought I was grunting because I was... um... doing what babies usually do when they grunt..... but when she went in there I was
standing up!

My Birthday!

Posted by Casey

Today is my eighth birthday! Well... we don't know if I really am eight. When Cammie adopted me on this date 5 years ago, they said I was three. It has been 5 wonderful years with Cammie. Needless to say, I am quite the spoiled pup... but hey, I deserve it! I am a good and loyal dog.

Halloween Party

Today was the ward Halloween party. I went as a spider. I had to get a 2T size costume because Mommy couldn't find an infant one that fit. I am too big for even the 12 month old sizes. Goodness.

I had tons of fun at the party. Reese went as a monkey. Our other friend Michael went as Eeyore.

Rohner Cousins

My Mommy grew up with the Rohners as neighbors. Now they are like family. Auntie Megan came from Las Vegas with her kids, so I went to see my cousins. This is Jacob, Me, and JaNae. Jacob is about 16 months old. Look! I am as big as him!

St. George Trip

Well, Grandma, Mommy, Brittany and me are off to St. George to go to Great Grandma Rowley's wedding. St. George is far, far away. Even farther than Mimi's or Grandma Caylinn's!
*
I have been to St. George before for a reception for Aunt Brittany. I was only three months old then, and I slept most of the way. But not this time. I wanted to play the whole way.
*
We came prepared with our drinks of choice.

Great Great Grandma Hull

Our stop in St. George was to visit Great Great Grandma Hull. She is 92 years old. Can you believe that?! I am barely 8 months old. She has had tons of time to play with toys.

Great Grandma's Wedding

Here we are at Great Grandma Rowley's wedding. She got married to Chester House. I was a very good boy during the ceremony and didn't make a peep.

Looking Up

Things are looking up.
I was in charge of the music at Great Grandma's wedding. I also was in charge of telling people "Thanks for coming" and giving them a cute mint bag.

Smushy

I enjoyed smushing my nose against the screen door at the time share. It was fun. Mom made some good smushies too.

Slumber Party

Oh yeah! Slumber party! I call the king size bed with Mommy! Whose up for a pillow fight?!

Wiggles

Before we left for home, I had to get my wiggles out at the playground. Tic-tac-Toe anyone?

Shot Gun!

I call shot gun!

Yeah... yeah.... I know, Mom.... I'm getting in the back..... :(

Car Rides

Car rides sure make you sleepy.

Bad Outfit

I don't know how I feel about this outfit. Mommy took about 40 pictures, and this is the only one that I am smiling in. After awhile, Mommy asked me to pose like a Utah football player after they lose to BYU. So I did.

For those of you that don't know... Mommy and Daddy differ in only two things... football teams and politics. Since Daddy's political canidate looks like he might win, I have decided to cheer for Mommy's football team. Go BYU!

Family Fun

Last night I went to Aunt Michelle's house for dinner. Boy was it yummy! Not only was the food delicious, but I got to swing. Here is a picture of my cousin Olivia and me. Uncle Craig was pretty good at pushing me in the swing too!

Eight Months Old!

Today I turned eight months old! Can you believe it?! Where have months 4, 5,6, and 7 gone? (Mommy says she remembers months 1-3 really well.)

Doggie Park

We took Casey and Aspen to the doggie park this afternoon. I think they had a lot of fun. They like to run through the tunnels and chase other dogs. Casey loves to get drinks out of the doggie drinking fountain. There was a baby German Shepard that was a little intimidated by our pups. No worry. He took refuge under the stroller.

My Way!

So I will be eight months old tomorrow, but Mommy says I am acting like a toddler because I have been having tantrums. I don't know what she means. Just because I only wanted graham crackers for lunch and nothing else and wasn't afraid to let the whole world know, doesn't mean I am having a tantrum, right?

Obviously by the picture, you can see I got my way.

Jail

Help me! Help me!
I have learned that if I push down my bumper pads on my crib, that I can see Mommy when she is down the hall. If I reach my cute little arms out to her through the bars and go "ma ma ma ma" she will always come and get me out.

Which Halloween Costume?

Patient Pup

This is Casey. He is one of my doggies. We took Casey on a walk today. It took us an hour because he was going so slow. I think Casey isn't feeling too well.
*
I love Casey because he is so nice and gentle to me. He also takes good care of my mommy.

Three Years

Mommy and Daddy celebrated their three year anniversary yesterday.

Tooth Two

Oh no! The terrible twos! And by that I mean teeth... yes... teeth, not tooth. My second tooth came in today. It is on the bottom by the other one. No wonder I have been on the grumpy side the past two days.

Don't mess with me... I'll bite you. :)
