Yurt Trip

Mom and Dad went on a yurt trip. It was Mom's first trip to a yurt. I didn't go. I needed to tend Grandma and Grandpa.
-
They packed all their stuff in the sled and attempted to have the dogs pull it.
When Hunter and Aspen wouldn't pull it, Mom had to...... ok, Dad did.

It was really pretty.

They snowshoed in to the yurt. It was about two miles. Mom decided she should have wore her new boots a few times before. By time they got there she had a bruise ring around her ankle.
-
Aspen and Hunter loved it. They love being off their leash and just running and running.

This is what the yurt looks like inside. Mom was surprised by how much gear was in it. She wouldn't have made Dad pack so much.

They were able to heat the yurt up by using the wood burning stove. It would get really, really hot in there.
The yurt has a glass dome on top. You could raise it a little.

They had a wood pile. The fenced area was for gathering snow and melting it for water.

All the way down there is the pit toilet. It ALWAYS had a layer of frost on the toilet seat. (Mom wanted me to mention that.)

When they got there, they started to melt snow to get enough water. Then they cooked their tin-foil dinners on top of the stove.

Aspen and Hunter were having a fabulous time. Mom and Dad kept the door to the yurt open, so they just ran in and out.
-
Mom hardly slept that night. The yurt was too hot and the dogs kept wiggling around. Dad, however, slept just fine, as usual.

No, this is not a picture of dog food. It is what Dad fed Mom for breakfast! Poor Mom! It is corn beef and hash - from a can. I guess it is what the Laraway boys eat hiking.

Dad mixed an egg in with it to make it "taste" better. Mom found that if you put enough oatmeal in with it, it made it tolerable.

In the morning they had to restock the wood for the fire. Dad chopped some wood. He loved it.

Then you have to scoop the ashes out of the stove. Mom was busy washing the dishes and packing.

-
After the yurt was clean they headed back. Mom liked the trip back because it was all downhill. She even would sit on the sled and slide down the big hills. Mom and Dad had a great time. Mom wants to go again. They said I can go someday, when it is summer and there is no snow.
